Fall 2016 was our most successful Fall Training season ever, with over 100 players enrolled in different programs across LA. We are excited to carry this momentum into our Winter Local Season.

What makes Dragons unique is that we offer the highest level of training, and more of it. Our coaching staff is one of the best in Los Angeles, filled with former NCAA collegiate lacrosse players. And five of our coaches are full-time employees, making Dragons, and your sons’ and daughters’ development, their number one priority. In December and January alone, players in 4th grade and higher will be able to receive 20 hours of training on turf fields. We expect to add another 12 hours of practices in February, once the city assigns us our field space; for a total of over 30 hours during the winter season. You will be hard-pressed to find this much practice time, at this level of quality anywhere else. And we are confident that your investment in your kids will pay off in the form of better skills and a higher lacrosse IQ.

The Winter Local Season is for players of all skill levels and will feature games against other LA clubs in the West LA League. Key points:

  • Boys and girls teams for 2nd/3rd, 4th/5th, 6th/7th and 8th (or Middle School)
  • Practices start on December 2, 1st game is January 7th, playoffs are February 25th
  • 3 practices in December, 2 practices a week in January and February (4th & up)
  • Game locations will be Santa Monica HS, Culver City HS and Marlborough (girls)

Primary Coaching Staff: Dragons is probably the only lacrosse club in LA with an entirely professional coaching staff. All of our coaches have a deep understanding of the game of lacrosse, they are young, full of positive energy and share a love of teaching lacrosse to kids. Our curriculum is highly instructive, with a focus on making your kids better players. Primary boys coaches are Connor Buss, Brendan Smith and Andrew Layne. Primary girls coaches are Meghan Toomey, Maddy Morrissey and Paige Bonomi. Our primary coaches will be supported by assistant coaches, and in February many of our travel team coaches will join the rotation, upon completion of their duties with our travel teams.

Connor is an excellent developmental coach that spends a lot of his time with younger players and has become quite popular with players and parents alike. Brendan has made teaching kids his life’s passion. He is a full-time PE instructor, as well as a varsity and youth lacrosse coach. Brendan connects very well with kids, and just like Connor, is popular with players and parents alike. Andrew represents our Philly connection. As you know, lacrosse is far more prevalent on the East Coast and Philly has become the most recent hotbed. Andrew played Division III lacrosse and brings some Philly toughness into our ranks. Meghan and Maddy (they call themselves M&M) are the dynamic duo of girls coaching. There is not a pair of girls coaches in LA, in any sport, that are this capable, positive and engaging. Girls simply love them, and they are extremely effective at getting players better at every age and skill level. Paige is our newest addition to the girls coaching staff and she brings the same passion and dedication as Meghan and Maddy. Full bios of all our primary coaches are at the bottom of this e-mail.

Practices & Games: Our provisional practice schedule for December and January is listed below. The practice schedule listed below is for reference and planning purposes only. Once you are registered and teams are formed, each team will receive an individual practice calendar, that will be posted on our website, and you will receive e-mail and text reminders for practices and games. This schedule is subject to change.

The February schedule will be published once we have been assigned field space by the city, which we expect will be mid-January. A GAME SCHEDULE will be posted as soon as it is provided to us by the league.

Additional Training: We’ll be offering 2 new programs that will help players improve their skills. Those programs are separate from the local team calendar and open to all players. On November 12th, we’ll be starting Speed Lacrosse, which will help our players improve on stick skills, ball movement, inside finishing, conditioning and overall lacrosse IQ. Speed Lacrosse will take place on the beach in front of the Annenberg Community Beach House on Saturday morning from 10am to noon. We will also offer positional clinics that focus on defense for long poles, defense for midfielders, face-offs and goalie training. The first clinic is scheduled for December 15 at John Adams Middle School from 7pm to 9pm and will feature Brendan Fowler (Duke 2014) from Faceoff Academy, the leading face-off teaching organization in the world.

Boys Uniform: Boys local teams will be using the same uniforms as last Spring and Summer, which is a 3-piece set that includes shorts, a reversible and a shooter shirt. Price is $85 and the uniform is available in our online store. In order to ensure deliver by the first week of January, we need all orders to be placed by November 25. If you have a uniform from one of the prior seasons, you do not need to purchase a new one.

Girls Reversible: Girls local teams will be using the same reversible as last Spring and Summer, which is a white/neon green reversible. Price is $35 and the reversible is available in our online store. In order to ensure deliver by the first week of January, we need all orders to be placed by November 25. If you have a reversible from one of the prior seasons, you do not need to purchase a new one.

Helmets and Helmet Wrap: We do offer a Dragons helmet for local teams, but it is not mandatory. The helmet is a Cascade CPX-R, and fits players in 4th grade through high school. The helmet is $185. We also offer a Dragons helmet wrap, which is essentially a really cool Dragons decal that goes on the helmet and costs $45. Both items are available in our online store, and if you are interested in purchasing them, we need orders to be in by November 25th. Please DO NOT confuse this helmet and wrap with the 2016/17 Travel Team helmet and wrap. Those are only available to travel team players and more expensive.

Loaner Gear: If you are new to the sport or are not quite sure what to buy yet, we do have loaner gear available at no cost. However, we do require a $100 deposit. If you require loaner gear, please e-mail James Burton at   to make arrangements. Gear will be provided on the field at the first practice, in exchange for a $100 deposit check.

Pricing: We have developed a 2-tier registration package to better accommodate younger players and their entry into the sport.

2nd/3rd Grade Boys & Girls: $255 for season. Includes coaching fees for practices and games, field space, practice pinnie and league fees. This fee is about $100 less than last year to account for the fact that this age group practices less than the older age groups. It is a pretty incredible deal, because if you amortize the fee over the game and practice coaching hours, it comes out to less than $10 an hour.

4th Grade to 8th Grade Boys & Girls: $465 for season. Includes coaching fees for practices and games, field space, practice pinnie and league fees. This fee is about $100 more than last year to account for smaller team sizes, more coaches and between 30 to 34 hours of training. Although higher, this fee is also an incredible deal because when amortized over game coaching hours and training hours, it also comes out to less than $10 an hour.
