2019 Dragons Girls Countdown To Spring
We’re very excited for the 2019 Dragons Girls Spring Season. We’ll be participating in the Pacific Edge Lacrosse Association Leage, which means more teams to play against and more variety and competition. Most of the season information is listed below.
If you have additional general questions, please e-mail Randy Grube at
. If you have specific questions regarding our girls program, please contact Program Director Meghan Toomey at
Philosophy - Spring is our primary training season. We will have space at Santa Monica HS and our beaches, and will provide each team with 2 practices a week. Spring is our longest season and provides the best platform for players to improve because of the consistent practice schedule. This year we will be asking all families to sign a player/parent contract that outlines practice and game attendance requirements. We can only get better if we are on the field together.
Tryouts - There are no tryouts for the Spring season. Everyone plays and we will have teams for all skill levels.
Registration Link for Girls K - 2nd grade will provided as the season gets closers
Registration Link for for Girls 3rd - 8th grade will be provided as the season gets closer.
Team Structure - We plan on fielding teams in the age groups listed below. Our coaching staff will sit down in the next 2 weeks to draft teams that will give our players the most playing time and the best development environment.
- K-1 Grade
- 2nd Grade
- Elementary School: 3/4/5 Grade
- Middle School: 6/7/8 Grade
This team structure is a bit different from what we are used to but it is the format of the league. The basic idea is to have an elementary school and middle school division.
Having said that, we will optimize rosters to maximize playing time. For example, in the 8v8 3/4/5 division, rosters will be 12-14 players per team. In the 12v12 6/7/8 division rosters will be 16-18 players per team. In order for this to work, practice and game attendance becomes very important. If we optimize rosters for playing time and then players are frequently absent, the system doesn’t work. Please keep that in mind. This also means that we will be placing a cap on registrations per team. For example, if exactly 36 players register for middle school, we will form 2 teams. If we end up with 42 players (just as an example), we would put the last 6 players to register on a waitlist and offer them a spot if one of the first 36 to register drops out. So it is better to register and pay quickly. We do need to have payment in order to secure a spot since past history has shown that people drop out after registering.
Practice Schedule - Each team except K-2 will have 2 practices a week. Below is a planning schedule.
- First practice day for K-2 and 3/4/5 is Sunday 3/4.
- First practice day for 6/7/8 is Wednesday 3/7.
Take a look at our Spring 2018 Practice Schedule below to get an idea of what Spring 2019 Schedule will look like. Schedule is subject to change.
Game Schedule - We are playing in the Pacific Edge Lacrosse Association (PELA). A specific weekly schedule will be published closer to the start of the season.

Coaching Assignments - We’re extremely proud of our girls coaching staff and believe it is the most passionate, experienced, positive and energetic group in LA. Our coaches are at the core of a unique team experience and care about the well-being of your daughter. Specific coaching assignments will be made in about 2 weeks when we have a better idea of our team structure. We always try to find the best-possible fit between coaches and teams when we make assignments, and we try to maintain consistency so the players are used to familiar faces.
